February 8, 2008 Appointments, honors, activitiesFaculty and staff honors— Melissa Dark, professor of computer and information technology and assistant dean in the College of Technology, has received a Faculty Fellowship for Study in a Second Discipline for the fall 2008 semester. The award provides $3,500 per semester to support travel, equipment purchases, software acquisition and other activities. Dark will focus on political science and its applications to factors that influence lawmaking, especially in regard to information technology. Student honors — The Indiana State Reading Association has chosen Jason Byers, a junior in elementary education from Boonville, Ind., as Outstanding Future Reading Teacher. He was chosen based on his performance in reading and language arts coursework and his overall grade point average. He will be presented with the award at the Indiana State Reading Association annual convention on March 3 in Indianapolis. — Discovery Park's Certificate for Entrepreneurship and Innovation program presented $5,000 Peterson Entrpreneurship scholarships to the following undergraduates for their achievements: Abhishek Bhayana, a sophomore in management from Uttar Pradesh, India; Brian Hunter, a junior in management from Mill Creek, Ind.; Pinak Patel, a junior in Consumer and Family Sciences from Carol Stream, Ill.; Vince PeGan, a junior in management from Lafayette, Ind.; and Maria Roa, a sophomore in management from Bogota, Colombia. The program is part of the Kauffman Campuses Initiatives in the Burton D. Morgan Center for Entrepreneurship.
