Poet Marianne Boruch will read from her recently published collection of poems on Feb. 12 at the Purdue University Literary Reading Series.

Boruch, a professor of English, will read from "Grace, Fallen from" at 7:30 p.m. in the Hicks Undergraduate Library Bookstall.

The event, which is sponsored by the Department of English and the Creative Writing Program, is free and open to the public.

Boruch is the author of six collections of poetry including "Poems: New & Selected" and "A Stick that Breaks and Breaks." She also has written two books of essays on poetry, "In the Blue Pharmacy: Essays on Poetry and Other Transformations" and "Poetry's Old Air."

Her poems and essays also have been published by The New Yorker, The Nation, Iowa Review and The Georgia Review, as well as anthologized in "The Best American Poetry, 1997," "Boomer Girls," "Poets of the New Century," and "Poets Reading: The FIELD Symposia."

According to Robert Pinsky, from The Washington Post's Book World, "Marianne Boruch's (work) has the wonderful, commanding power of true attention: She sees and considers with intensity. Her poems often give fresh examples of how rare and thrilling it can be to notice."

She recently was selected to receive the College of Liberal Arts' Educational Excellence Award. Her other awards include two Pushcart Prizes, the Terrence DePres Award from Parnassus, two fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and a Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship. She was a finalist for the Lenore Marshall Prize from the Academy of American Poets.

Boruch has taught at Purdue since 1987 and directed the master of fine arts program in creative writing from its beginning in 1987 until 2005.
