January 9, 2008 Purdue to offer MCAT preparation courseWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue University Continuing Education and Conferences will offer a Medical College Admission Test preparation course in the spring 2007-08 semester. The course, sponsored by the Department of Chemistry, will meet from 1-4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays Jan. 19 through April 13. The registration fee for the 24 course sessions is $499. Online registration is available at the Continuing Education and Conference Web site at: https://www.continuinged.purdue.edu/testprep. This course is based on the principle that the best way to prepare for the MCAT is to work on actual MCAT questions developed by the Association of American Medical Colleges, which administers the MCAT. Instructors will review questions from MCAT practice tests and advise students on how to take practice tests online. Students will take all the available practice tests by the end of the semester so they receive the most thorough preparation possible. Joshua Tierney and Al Aghdasi will serve as instructors. Tierney received his bachelor’s degree in biology from Purdue. He achieved a perfect score on the biological sciences section of the MCAT and is currently a first-year medical student at the Indiana University School of Medicine. Aghdasi received his master’s degree in electrical engineering from Purdue. While a graduate student, he took premed courses at Purdue and is currently a nuclear magnetic resonance research specialist. He also achieved high scores on the MCAT and is applying to medical schools.
