Trustees approve athletics ticket prices

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue University board of trustees on Saturday (Dec. 15) voted to increase ticket prices to football and men's and women's basketball games in the 2008-09 season.

The action provides an inflationary revenue increase for the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics, which depends on ticket sales for approximately 30 percent of its annual budgeted revenue, said Morgan Burke, director of Intercollegiate Athletics. The last ticket rate increases were approved in December 2005.

"We had no increases to our season ticket prices for 2007-08," Burke said. "Increases in facility maintenance costs, scholarship dollars and operating expenses are the driving forces in our request for an inflationary increase to some ticket prices for fiscal year 2008-09."

In 2008 public football season tickets for prime seating between the 30-yard lines will be $336 ($48 per game), up from $322 ($46 per game). Faculty and staff season tickets will continue to be discounted 20 percent off the public price, increasing to $269 from $258. For seats outside the prime section, public season tickets will be $259 ($37 per game), up from $245 ($35 per game). For faculty and staff, non-prime seating will be $207, up from $196. South end zone tickets will be $140 ($20 per game), up from $126 ($18 per game).

Single-game tickets will be $46 for Big Ten Conference games and $40 for non-conference games outside the prime seating areas. South end zone tickets will be $22 for all games. If available after season ticket allocation, prime seating tickets will be $56 for Big Ten games and $50 for non-conference games.

All football season ticket prices are based on a seven-game home schedule.

For men's basketball, season tickets in the lower area will be $488, up from $456. The price is based on a 20-game home schedule. In 2008-09 the price includes 18 regular-season games at $26 each and two exhibition games at $10 apiece, compared with $24 each for 17 regular-season and two exhibition games in 2007-08.

Upper-arena men's basketball season tickets for the general public will be $362, up from $323. For faculty and staff, season tickets in the upper arena will be $290, up from $258, again reflecting a 20 percent discount off the public price.

Men's single-game prices will be as follows: $31 for Big Ten games and $27 for non-conference games in the lower arena; $24 for Big Ten games and $20 for non-conference games in the upper arena. All prices represent a $2 increase over this year.

For women's basketball, lower-arena season tickets will remain at $102. A new $80 upper-arena general admission adult season ticket is being added. Single-game adult tickets will be $12, up from $10.

All other prices for women's basketball tickets will remain the same for the eighth straight year. Student season tickets will stay at $45, and student single-game tickets will still be $5. Season tickets are based on a 14-game home season and are adjusted based on games being added to the schedule.

Football student season tickets will be $119 ($17 per game), up from $105 ($15 per game). Men's basketball student season tickets will be $140, up from $120, and based on a 15-game home schedule (13 regular-season games at $10 each and two exhibitions at $5 apiece). The increase is the first in seven years.

Students again will be able to purchase VIP Cards – season tickets to all Purdue intercollegiate athletics events – at $225, which reflects a more than 30 percent discount off the combined season ticket rates and, in effect, negates the individual sport season ticket price increases, Burke said.
