Purdue student arrested in connection with theft

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - A Purdue student was arrested Thursday (Nov. 29) and charged with stealing about $350 worth of personal items and cash from a locker at the university's Recreational Sports Center.

Purdue police Lt. Fred Davis said Iroc Q. Duncan, 19, of 1357 State St., West Lafayette, was taken to Tippecanoe County Jail after he admitted stealing a backpack from an unlocked locker late Wednesday (Nov. 28). The backpack contained $100, an iPod, earphones and two textbooks, Davis said. Police recovered about $90 from Duncan. The electronic items and textbooks were found in a search of his apartment.

Duncan, a sophomore majoring in organizational leadership and supervision, faces one count of theft. Theft is a Class D felony punishable by a fine of up to $10,000 and a prison term of up to three years.

"We strongly urge everyone to lock up valuables whenever they use recreational facilities," Davis said. "It's also important to keep living areas locked and to maintain lists of makes, models and serial numbers, along with identifying marks or features, of valuable possessions."
