Purdue Police investigate thefts from vehicles, vandalism

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue University police are investigating eight vehicle break-ins that occurred in three campus parking garages and resulted in stolen property and vehicle damage in excess of $6,600.

The break-ins, which all were reported to police on Wednesday (Nov. 21), likely occurred sometime between late night Tuesday (Nov. 20) and early morning on Wednesday (Nov. 21), said Lt. Fred Davis. In each case, vehicles were entered by breaking windows, and, in addition to vehicle damage, a variety of car stereo equipment and a number of compact discs were stolen.

"People need to be aware not to keep personal information in the car that could be taken and misused and to not leave valuable items in plain view," Davis said. "Owners should also keep notes of serial numbers for items like car stereos and mark their property in some way. We also want people to report to us any suspicious activity they might see in the parking areas."

Six of the break-ins occurred in McCutcheon Garage, 250 McCutcheon Drive. One each was reported at the Wood Street Garage, 120 S. Grant St., and the Marsteller Street Garage, 112 Marsteller St.
