They will be recognized at the 2008 AAAS annual meeting in Boston. Doerge, a professor of statistics, is recognized for distinguished contributions to statistics and genetics. She also is recognized for quantitative trait locus mapping and for setting the statistical standards as an editor for life science journals. Kais, a professor of chemistry, is recognized for outstanding creative contributions to theoretical chemistry and particularly for the development of a finite size scaling approach to calculate quantum critical parameters for atomic, molecular and quantum dot systems. Kuhn is recognized for distinguished contributions to the field of virology. He is particularly commended for studies of the structure, assembly and replication of medically important picornaviruses, alphaviruses and flaviviruses.

- Thomas Hodges, a Purdue professor emeritus, has been named an inaugural fellow of the American Society of Plant Biologists. The award is granted in recognition of distinguished and long-term contributions to plant biology and service to the society by current members in areas that include research, education, mentoring, outreach, and professional and public service.
