November 8, 2007 Purdue police arrest 2, seek another in connection with theftWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue police late Wednesday (Nov. 7) arrested two women and are seeking a third for questioning following the theft of a laptop computer and accessories from Subway Restaurant, 1400 W. State St.Lauren Flowers, 18, of Chicago, faces a preliminary charge of theft, said Purdue police Lt. Fred Davis. Gabrielle C. Burton, 18, of Lafayette, Ind., faces preliminary charges of perjury and false informing. Both were released Thursday (Nov. 8) from Tippecanoe County Jail after posting bond. Flowers and Burton are not Purdue students. Police also want to question another woman in connection with the theft. Officers were called to the restaurant around 2 p.m. Wednesday (Nov. 7) when a customer discovered that his laptop computer bag, which he had left at the restaurant after midnight, was not there. The bag contained the computer, portable hard drive, mouse, earphones and class notes. Burton, a Subway employee, initially told police two of her male friends had taken the items. However, Davis said investigators determined that Flowers and the other woman had taken the computer and used Burton's car to transport the stolen items away from the restaurant. They later discarded all the items in an empty residential trash container in the Highland Park area, northeast of South Fourth and Owen streets in Lafayette, he said. The value of the stolen items is estimated at $2,000. Theft and perjury are Class D felonies, punishable by up to three years in prison and a maximum fine of $10,000. False informing is a Class A misdemeanor, punishable by up to one year in prison and a maximum fine of $5,000. Writer: Christy Jones, (765) 494-1089, christyjones@purdue.edu Source: Lt.
