Purdue Agronomy to celebrate 100 years

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue University Department of Agronomy will have its Centennial Celebration on Nov. 16-17 at the West Lafayette campus.

"The Department of Agronomy has a rich history of outstanding students, faculty, alums and friends," said department head Craig Beyrouty. "We have a weekend of events and reunions planned to celebrate a century of contributions by these individuals who have been so instrumental in making Purdue agronomy the best in the nation."

Among the events that will be highlighted is a lunch in Ross-Ade Pavilion's Buchanan Club from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Nov. 16. The department will give out its Agronomic Achievement Award, which recognizes alumni and friends of the department for contributions to the agronomy profession or industry.

On Nov. 17 there will be an Old Oaken Bucket Tailgate in the new Beck Agricultural Center, located at the Agronomy Center for Research and Education. The tailgate for the Purdue vs. Indiana University football game will be from noon to 4 p.m. Activities will include a quarterback toss and prairie walks, and the game will be shown on a big screen.

The main event will be the Centennial Gala in the Purdue Memorial Union North and South Ballrooms from 6-11 p.m. on Nov. 17. The department will recognize its Legends of Agronomy for the first time. The gala includes dinner and a chance to reunite with professors and students.

Other events that will take place during the celebration weekend are walking campus tours with the Agronomy Ambassadors and back-to-class sessions that have been designed specifically for this event by agronomy professors.

Some hotel rooms have been set aside for those interested. To participate in any of the events, advance registration is required. For more information on each of the events and to register, go online to https://www.agry.purdue.edu/100/ or contact Kelly Delp at (765) 494-6586, kdelp@purdue.edu.
