October 30, 2007 Winer Memorial Lectures feature experts in mathematical psychologyWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue University Winer Memorial Lectures, which is an annual conference in mathematical psychology, will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday (Nov. 3 and 4) in Pierce Hall, Room 277.This year's lecturers include Congressional Medal of Science recipient R. Duncan Luce and Janos Aczel, founder of the field of functional equations. All interested Purdue faculty and students are welcome to attend. The conference's schedule is available online at https://web.ics.purdue.edu/~kwon8/ The meeting is organized by the Quantitative Area of the Department of Psychological Sciences and is sponsored by the Benjamin Winer Memorial Fund. The Department of Psychological Sciences is housed in the College of Liberal Arts. The Purdue Winer Memorial Lectures started in 2001. The topic of this year's lectures is "Mathematical Psychology as Applied Mathematics." The presentations will relate to mathematical problems and developments growing from psychological theories and models, and specific characteristics, if any, of mathematics used in psychology as compared to that used in natural sciences.
