October 28, 2007 3 events wrap up Purdue's fall celebrationWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue University will wrap up its 12-day celebration surrounding Homecoming this week with two events to mark the fundraising successes for new educational facilities and the dedication of a third.A ceremony for the success in making the $11.5 million Bill and Sally Hanley Hall one step closer to reality is scheduled for 4 p.m. Monday (Oct. 29) in the Burton D. Morgan Center for Entrepreneurship. Hanley Hall will house the Human Development Institute, which will include programs and centers from the College of Consumer and Family Sciences and the Purdue Center for Aging and the Life Course. A faculty lecture at 2:30 p.m. will precede the ceremony. At 11 a.m. Tuesday (Oct. 30), an event highlighting the efforts to raise funds for the $12 million Marriott Hall will take place. The hall will house Purdue's top-ranked Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management. It will be located at the northwest corner of State and University streets, where the ceremony will occur. The dedication of the 20,000-square-foot Beck Agricultural Center, set for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday (Oct. 31), is the last event for fall celebration. The event will be at the center, located at the Purdue Agronomy Center for Research and Education on U.S. 52, about seven miles northwest of the West Lafayette campus. "These events have been a tremendous way to let people know just how much we appreciate them and what they do for this university," said Murray Blackwelder, senior vice president for advancement. "From the faculty, to the staff, to the students and to our alumni, these are the people who keep this a top-notch educational and research institution. We're humbled by the generosity shown to Purdue, and we hope friends of Purdue around the world get a great deal of satisfaction knowing that they are contributing to improving lives through the power of education and university research." Purdue's celebration, with events centered around Saturday's (Oct. 27) Homecoming, began Oct. 19 with groundbreaking for the Wayne T. and Mary T. Hockmeyer Hall. The Krannert School of Management announced a $2 million gift and $4.2 million overall on Oct. 22, and Purdue celebrated efforts toward a $6.6 million project for an addition to the Niswonger Aviation Technology Building on Wednesday (Oct. 24). The completion of fundraising for the $33 million Roger B. Gatewood Mechanical Engineering Wing was highlighted on Thursday (Oct. 25), and the unveiling of a bronze sculpture of Purdue alumnus and astronaut Neil Armstrong was unveiled Friday (Oct. 26).
