Dalai Lama visits Purdue
The 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet, the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism, greets the 6,000-plus audience at Purdue University's Elliott Hall of Music on Friday (Oct. 26) before presenting his talk on "Cultivating Happiness." The Dalai Lama's Purdue appearance was part of his weeklong visit to Indiana and was presented by the Tibetan Cultural Center in Bloomington, Ind., and Purdue Convocations in cooperation with Purdue's College of Liberal Arts. A 1989 Nobel Peace Prize winner, the Dalai Lama recently received the U.S. Congressional Gold Medal in recognition of his contributions to peace, nonviolence, human rights and religious understanding.
