September 14, 2007 Hispanic, Latino culture to be focus of upcoming eventWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - National Hispanic/Latino Heritage Month will be celebrated on Thursday (Sept. 20) during an event at Purdue University's Windsor Dining Court.Sponsored by Housing and Food Services and the Purdue Student Union Board, the event will be from 5-7 p.m. For Purdue students on a meal plan, the event is free. For those not on a meal plan, the cost to dine at Windsor is $8.25 for adults. The event is part of a newly established program called Cultural Nights @ Windsor: Cultural Journeys Through Food, Music and Crafts. Along with the Latin American cuisine, the program will include music and crafts made by volunteers representing Hispanic/Latino cultures. "The idea behind these programs is to provide optional cultural learning opportunities to students and the public that are informal and engaging," said Wilfrido Cruz, the cultural programs administrator for Housing and Food Services. "Two additional cultural nights will be offered this semester – a celebration of Italian culture in October and a program honoring American Indian Heritage Month in November." The National Italian American Heritage Month program will take place from 5-7 p.m. Oct. 17. Three more cultural nights will take place in the spring, Cruz said.
