Day offers food, fun for Purdue families

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Visitors to Purdue on Saturday (Sept. 15) will have a number of activities and events from which to choose as a part of the annual Family Day event, sponsored by Purdue Student Union Board.

The day will begin with a pancake breakfast in the Purdue Armory at 8 a.m. with President France A. Córdova. Tickets are $5 per person; reservations are required. For information or to register, call (800) 213-3044.

From 9-11 a.m., faculty and staff members from a variety of schools will meet with families and offer tours of campus facilities. A complete listing of school visits and tours is available at https://www.union.purdue.edu/psub

Families will get a chance to see the Purdue football team in action when it takes on Central Michigan at noon. For ticket information, call (765) 494-3194, (800) 49-SPORT or visit https://www.purduesports.com

Following the game, Keith Scott, a blues musician from Chicago, will perform during the Boilermaker BBQ from 3-6 p.m. in Academy Park behind Purdue Memorial Union. A variety of family activities will be offered, including spin art and airbrush tattoos.

Items on the menu will include fresh tomato and cucumber salad; broccoli and golden raisin salad; corn on the cob; new potato salad; grilled chicken drumsticks; beer brats; Cuban sandwiches; lemon cake with sweet sugar glaze; minted watermelon salad; brownies; and chocolate chip cookies.

All activities are free, but the cost for the meal is $10.99 for adults and $6.99 for children under 10. Tickets for the meal can be purchased only at the event.

Also, from 6-8 p.m. students, faculty and staff with a valid Purdue ID and their guests can participate in Xtreme Bowling and Billiards at the Union Rack & Roll in the Purdue Memorial Union. Games are $1.50 with $1.25 shoe rental per person, and billiards is $3.50 per hour per table.
