Purdue police arrest student in connection with thefts

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue police on Monday (Sept. 10) arrested a university student following several thefts from a fraternity house.

Tyler Thomas Kilpatrick, 18, a freshman in the College of Agriculture from Glenview, Ill., faces nine preliminary charges, including three counts of residential burglary and six counts of theft, said Purdue police Lt. Fred Davis. Kilpatrick was taken to the Tippecanoe County Jail where he was being held in lieu of a $25,000 bond.

Purdue police were called to Theta Chi fraternity, 800 David Ross Road, around 9:45 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 9) after four residents discovered that three MP3 players and a bottle of prescription medication were missing from their rooms. The students told police they suspected Kilpatrick, who was among visitors to the house on Saturday night (Sept. 8).

According to a police report, Kilpatrick was questioned by officers, and the stolen items, along with several plastic bags of herbal extracts, a camera and a calculator, were later found hidden in Harrison Hall, where Kilpatrick lives.

Residential burglary is a Class B felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a maximum fine of $10,000. Theft is a Class D felony and is punishable by up to three years in prison and a maximum fine of $10,000.
