Police arrest Purdue student on child pornography-related charges

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - A Purdue student was arrested Thursday (Aug. 23) on suspicion of using the university's computer network to download child pornography.

Andrew J. Naughton, 20, a sophomore majoring in education from DeMotte, Ind., faces two preliminary charges of child exploitation and a charge of possessing child pornography. He was taken to Tippecanoe County Jail where he was being held in lieu of a $10,000 bond, said Purdue police Lt. Fred Davis.

Davis said the investigation was conducted jointly with the Indiana State Police.

"Investigators are continuing to examine the student's computer, and that may yield additional information," Davis said.

Child exploitation and possession of child pornography are both Class C felonies, punishable by up to eight years in prison and a maximum fine of $10,000.
