Purdue Memorial Union has renamed its recreation facilities to Union Rack and Roll, just in time for the fall semester.

Formerly known as the Purdue Memorial Union Recreation Center, the area includes bowling, billiards, amusement games and a bowling pro shop. The center also is home to the nationally ranked Purdue Bowling Team and the Billiard Club.

Along with the new name, the facility has added a new video entertainment system that will be used for special events, educational purposes and on Friday and Saturday nights for Xtreme Bowling, said Scott Savage, recreation manager for Purdue Memorial Union's Department of Programming and Recreation.

"Xtreme Bowling is a new spin on a traditional sport," Savage said. "We use laser lights, music, and glow-in-the-dark pins and bowling balls to transform the Union Rack and Roll into a hip entertainment center."

The beginning of the semester also is the start of the Union's three bowling leagues, the Black & Gold leagues, open to men and women; the Bowlermakers league, open to any female students, staff, faculty or their families; and the Sport league, a competitive environment open to men and women.

Along with recreational use, the Union Rack and Roll can be reserved for private events, group outings and birthday parties.
