July 24, 2007 Purdue's College of Technology extends tuition reciprocity to Trimble County, Ky.NEW ALBANY, Ind. - Purdue University's College of Technology at New Albany, along with Indiana University Southeast and Ivy Tech Southern Indiana in Sellersburg, have reached an agreement that will allow students living in Trimble County, Ky., to pay in-state tuition at each of those institutions. The Indiana Commission for Higher Education approved the agreement that will become effective for the fall 2007 semester. "This is wonderful news for citizens of Trimble County," said Andy Schaffer, director of Purdue's College of Technology at New Albany. "They now will be able to get the same quality Purdue education offered at the main campus in West Lafayette without going far from home." Schaffer said students in Trimble County will benefit particularly because the next closest university - the University of Louisville - offers degrees in engineering but not in engineering technology, so it was necessary for students wishing to pursue those majors to travel farther from their homes. Purdue's location, on the IU Southeast campus in New Albany, offers degrees in computer graphics technology, electrical engineering technology, industrial technology, mechanical engineering technology, and organizational leadership and supervision. Trimble County is the fourth Kentucky county that has a tuition agreement with Purdue. Residents of Jefferson, Oldham and Bullitt counties also pay Indiana in-state rates at Purdue's College of Technology at New Albany. Schaffer said he expects the agreement to increase the enrollment at New Albany, which is currently about 165. "Kentucky residents currently make up about 20 percent of our enrollment," he said. "Even with the anticipated enrollment growth from Trimble and the other Kentucky counties around Louisville, Kentucky residents will likely stay about 20 percent of our headcount. That is because we also anticipate significant enrollment growth from across southeast Indiana." Indiana University Southeast is one of eight campuses of Indiana University. It offers more than 55 degree programs on its campus, which is located less than 15 minutes from downtown Louisville, Ky. It currently has an enrollment of more than 6,000 students. The Ivy Tech Community College Southern Indiana campus is part of the 23-campus Ivy Tech Community College system. It offers associate-level degrees in nursing, computer, business, technology, public services, health care, education and design fields. It also offers a variety of transfer degree options in general studies and liberal arts areas of concentration.
