Purdue police arrest student on theft, fraud charges
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue police on Wednesday (March 28) arrested a student on charges related to theft and fraudulent charges of nearly $600 on his roommate's debit card.Kai Min Wilson Wang, 19, a sophomore in the College of Pharmacy, Nursing and Health Sciences from Taiwan, faces preliminary theft and fraud charges, said Purdue police Lt. Fred Davis. Wang was taken to the Tippecanoe County Jail, where he was being held in lieu of a $5,000 bond.
Davis said a student in Tarkington Hall reported that nine purchases had been made to his debit card while he was on spring break. Items purchased included clothing, vitamins and a subscription to an Internet site, according to police reports.
After Wang was questioned about the thefts, he consented to a search of his residence hall room, Davis said. Receipts for many of the purchases in question were found, Davis said.
Theft and fraud are Class D felonies and are punishable by up to three years in prison and a maximum fine of $10,000.
