Update: Traffic, parking disruptions

Here are notes on some current and upcoming disruptions on the West Lafayette campus.

-- North University Drive in the general area of Mackey Arena has reopened. However, for one day this week, yet undetermined as this update is prepared, contractors on the Mackey project will close a lane on Northwestern Avenue near the football practice field for paving of new approaches.

-- At the Physical Facilities Service Building (PFSB), a contractor is expected to begin working this week in the south gravel lot. This is in connection with the sewer pipe project that also has affected South River Road. At PFSB, the southern half of the parking lot will be disrupted at times this month. A new temporary parking area will be added to the gravel drive that leads to Refuse and Recycling. For questions, contact Jim Knapp at jrknapp@purdue.edu or 49-43417.

-- At the Wood Street Parking Garage, a section of the top level is closed through Wednesday. The entire top level of the garage will be closed on Tuesday. For questions or concerns, contact Holly Alexander at 49-49315 or haalexander@purdue.edu.

-- A section of the sidewalk west of the Armory will be closed today through Thursday due to landscape work.

-- Reminder: The Y-shaped intersection near Elliott Hall of Music and the Armory is now a three-way stop.

-- Reminder: Centennial Mall near Stanley Coulter Hall and Wetherill Laboratory is divided by barriers into a pedestrian side and a construction traffic side. This is for construction access to the Gatewood Wing site alongside the Mechanical Engineering Building. Small golf cart-type vehicles are to avoid both the pedestrian and construction corridors, and instead find another route. … … Gatewood Wing work in the next two weeks is to include 1) continuing mass excavation; 2) beginning of layout for the footers against the ME building. -- Parking garage cleaning: The north half of the Northwestern Avenue Garage is scheduled for cleaning July 5-20. Work is being done from 10:30 p.m. to 7 a.m. The south half will remain closed for the ongoing repair project there.

-- Off campus, State Road 26 West between County roads 300 West (Klondike Road) and 500 West was to close today (July 6) and remain closed until late fall for a sight distance improvement project at both intersections (SR 26 and CR 300 W, and SR 26 and CR 500 W), both of which will be closed. Vehicles on CR 400 W will be able to cross SR 26. Residents along the closed section of SR 26 will have access to their homes. … … The official detour designated by the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) for westbound traffic is SR 26 W to SR 526 N (McCormick Road) to SR 126 E (Cherry Lane) to U.S. 231 N to U.S. 52 W to SR 352 W to SR 55 S and then back to SR 26. -- Also off campus, the southbound off ramp from Interstate 65 at State Road 43 is to closed for reconstruction of the ramp. This is at Exit 178. The closure may continue until July 13. The detour exit for southbound I-65 is to use Exit 188, go east on State Road 18, then south on State Road 43. This announcement is from the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT).
