Here are notes on some current and upcoming disruptions on the West Lafayette campus.

Here are notes on some current and upcoming disruptions on the West Lafayette campus.

-- Reminder: The Y-shaped intersection near Elliott Hall of Music and the Armory is now a three-way stop.

-- At the Gatewood Wing construction site alongside the Mechanical Engineering Building, the approach route for heavy vehicles will change at mid-week. Vehicles have been approaching from Grant Street via Central Drive and around Potter Engineering Center. The change will have them approaching from State Street at Marsteller Street, coming north on Memorial Mall Drive and past Wetherill Laboratory of Chemistry and through Centennial Mall past the Bell Tower. Pedestrians in this high-volume area need to be alert and cautious. The construction vehicle exit route will continue to be westward on Third Street.

Gatewood Wing work in the next two weeks is to include 1) completing installation of “H” piles and beginning timber lagging; 2) continuing mass excavation. For continued updates and information about this project, go to www.purdue.edu/architect/about/construction/2734.htm.

-- North University Drive is to remain closed to vehicles from Stadium Avenue to Victory Drive through Friday. Sidewalks will remain open to pedestrian traffic. Map: www.purdue.edu/physicalfacilities/travel/pdf/Stadium_to_Victory.pdf.

-- Also in the area of the Mackey Arena project, a wider-scope map of pedestrian routes, as drawn by the contractor, is now available. This arrangement is expected to continue through most or all of the project in late 2011 except during basketball seasons. The map is at www.purdue.edu/physicalfacilities/travel/pdf/Mackey_pedestrian_traffic.pdf.

-- On South Russell Drive south of Harrison Street, a section will be closed through the end of this week for the installation of a culvert and road repairs. The section is south of the railroad tracks and north of Materials Management and Distribution Center (MMAD). Access to areas south of the tracks is by South River Road and Ahlers Drive. (The recent lane shifts and placement of construction barrels in that general portion of South River Road are expected to end today.) Map: www.purdue.edu/physicalfacilities/travel/pdf/S_Russell_Closure.pdf.

-- "The Boilermaker" statue near Ross-Ade Stadium, will have granite cladding installed beginning Thursday. The adjacent sidewalk along North University Drive is expected to be closed through July 2, and fencing and signage will be in place. Map: www.purdue.edu/physicalfacilities/travel/pdf/boilermaker.pdf.

-- The section of First Street from MacArthur Drive to the southeast corner of Earhart Hall is expected to be closed through this week due to construction. Barriers and signage are directing traffic north on the drive between Earhart (ERHT) and Meredith Hall (MRDH). Map: www.purdue.edu/physicalfacilities/travel/pdf/first_street.pdf.

-- Parking garage cleaning: At the north half of the University Street Garage, cleaning is to continue through Friday (June 26). Work is being done from 10:30 p.m. to 7 a.m. Next is the south half of the University Street Garage, scheduled for June 28-July 2.

-- Off campus, the southbound off ramp from Interstate 65 at State Road 43 is to close today for reconstruction of the ramp. This is at Exit 178. The closure will continue up to three weeks, putting reopening at July 13. The detour exit for southbound I-65 is to use Exit 188, go east on State Road 18, then south on State Road 43. This announcement is from the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT).
