Register now for the 'Campus Fit Club' team weight loss competition

Training at the Recreational Sports Center

Registration is now open for the Recreational Sports Center's "Campus Fit Club."

In a program modeled after popular TV shows like Celebrity Fit Club and The Biggest Loser, personal trainers at the RSC will guide participants through a six-week personalized exercise regimen. Participation in the program can be used toward Healthy Purdue 2009.

"Campus Fit Club will be a fun way for people to get involved in healthy physical activity," says Chris Nasti, assistant director of fitness/wellness at RSC. "Having a group to work out with definitely helps a person stay motivated and dedicated to working out."

Teams of two to six people will work with a personal trainer twice a week for six weeks. Each session meets for one hour. During the first session each participant will undergo a fitness assessment that includes measurements of weight, body composition, strength, aerobic endurance and posture.

Based on these assessments, the trainers will create a customized program and set long-term goals for each participant. The trainers also will use these assessments to develop team activities for future sessions.

During the program, points will be awarded for healthy weight loss as well as for participation in a variety of physical activity and educational opportunities outside the training sessions (see information about free classes below). Based on those points, a winning team and individual will be named at the end of the six weeks.

For those participating in Healthy Purdue, participants must attend at least 10 of the 12 training sessions in order to earn the purple apple. Information on Healthy Purdue and the purple apple is available at www.purdue.edu/healthypurdue

"Campus Fit Club" starts the week of June 29 and ends Aug. 7. The deadline for teams to register is June 26, and the cost is $90 per person.

Participants must be RSC members to take part in "Campus Fit Club." Mid-summer membership, which lasts through Aug. 10, is $25.
