Update: Traffic, parking disruptions

Here are notes on some current and upcoming disruptions on the West Lafayette campus.

-- On Northwestern Avenue near the football practice field, a southbound lane will close Thursday (June 4) from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. to allow creation of new approaches along the sidewalk and the edge of the existing travel lane. Map: www.purdue.edu/physicalfacilities/travel/pdf/Mackey_Northwestern.pdf.

-- At the construction site for the Gatewood Wing of the Mechanical Engineering Building, preparations are continuing, including barriers along truck routes and signage at nearby buildings. Truck traffic coming from State Street toward the Bell Tower and exiting via Third Street will pick up soon. Use caution, and remember that the intersection at the west end of Elliott Hall of Music is now a three-way stop. Project map: www.purdue.edu/architect/about/construction/2734.htm.

-- On South River Road, the right-hand southbound lane is closed and southbound traffic is shifted to the left from the intersection of Tapawingo Drive to one-half mile south for a sanitary sewer project.

-- On Ahlers Road on the south part of campus, coal trucks will add to traffic for several weeks, particularly from 5 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The usual coal truck entrance from South River Road is closed temporarily for the sanitary sewer project.

-- On North University Drive, the closure along Ross-Ade Stadium for the installation of a telecommunications duct bank will continue for another week. Pedestrians will need to use Steven Beering Drive on the west side of the stadium. Pedestrians going to Mackey Arena, the Intercollegiate Athletic Facility or the Mollenkopf Athletic Center will be able to walk southbound on University Drive and will be diverted to the southwest corner of IAF. Pedestrians going to Lambert Fieldhouse will need to enter into Mackey and use the tunnel between the two buildings. Map: www.purdue.edu/physicalfacilities/travel/pdf/N.University.pdf.

-- The summer cleaning schedule for parking garages will begin June 7 with the Wood Street Garage. Work will take place from 10:30 p.m. to 7 a.m. nightly through June 16.

-- On the east side of Brown Laboratory of Chemistry, the sidewalk is closed until the start of the fall semester.

-- At Hicks Undergraduate Library, throughout the summer, a masonry restoration project will take place on the east, west, and south areas. Some entrances may be blocked at times.
