Sermersheim named dean of students

Katherine "Katie" Sermersheim has been named Purdue's dean of students, effective Aug. 1. Sermersheim will report to Beth McCuskey, vice provost for student life.

Naturally nutritious orange corn counters Africa's
'hidden hunger'

Purdue plant geneticist Torbert Rocheford owes a lot to cow manure, which he spread at a Maine dairy farm during a post-college job. What grew was his interest in plants. Now, Rocheford is working with a team to develop corn varieties that have naturally higher levels of nutrients that help stave off vitamin A deficiency, a condition that plagues sub-Saharan Africa.
