Murphy Award profiles: Eric Barker and George Hollich
Six exceptional teachers have been selected as recipients of the 2013 Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Awards in Memory of Charles B. Murphy. Today, we focus on Eric Barker, professor of medicinal chemistry and molecular pharmacology, and George Hollich, associate professor of psychological sciences.
ERIC BARKER
When Eric Barker lectures, he does so with the same enthusiasm and gusto he had the first time he presented the topic -- even if he's actually taught it a dozen times or more. Making sure he lectures enthusiastically is just one way Barker keeps his teaching accessible and interesting.
GEORGE HOLLICH
Sharing the excitement of discovery is George Hollich's favorite part of teaching. "You can feel the energy in the room when students lean in, and there are these wonderful moments when you can tell they are just as caught up in it as you are," Hollich says. "I literally get goose bumps."
