To John Higgins, spending time as a member of various national organizations sharing students' and his University's perspectives about student finances is not volunteering -- it's part of his job.
As assistant comptroller and bursar, Higgins has spent time working to ensure that the entities making rules that affect university business offices understand the effect of those rules' requirements and nuances.

The Office of Interdisciplinary Graduate Programs (OIGP) will hold a reception on April 1 to celebrate interdisciplinary graduate student research. The deadline for students' poster submissions and award applications is March 1.

A Purdue College of Engineering alumnus has given a gift under the Faculty Excellence Challenge Match program.
Agricultural economics professor Allan Gray has been named the newly created Land O'Lakes Chair in Food and Agribusiness at Purdue.
Applications are being accepted for the Charles O. McGaughey Leadership Awards, which honor Purdue undergraduates who show leadership abilities and appreciation for basic American values. The awards, each of which is at least $2,000, will be presented in the spring to at least four Purdue students. Deadline to apply is March 1. More details are available in this PDF file.
The Purdue Contemporary Dance Company, along with other dance groups and individuals, will be performing flash mobs at 10:15 a.m., 11:45 a.m., 1:15 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. Thursday (Feb. 14) outside Stewart Center as part of the global awareness campaign "One Billion Rising," which seeks an end to violence against women.
