Mentoring program helps prepare young moms for parenting

Purdue Extension helps people throughout Indiana in many ways. A service called Purdue's Moms Together Program, for example, provides teen mothers with mentors who help them develop the parenting skills they need to raise safe and healthy children. Mentors encourage them to continue their education and become self-sufficient. The young mothers ultimately gain confidence in their abilities as a parent and a provider for their children.

Daniels names DelSanto as chief of staff

Gina DelSanto will join Purdue University on Feb. 18 as chief of staff to President Mitch Daniels. DelSanto will serve a key role on the president's leadership team and will manage a wide range of matters of institutional importance on behalf of the president.

Foundations of Excellence: Cohesive student success efforts continue

Creating a campus-wide Student Success Action Team and renaming the Student Access, Transition and Success (SATS) programs to Student Success at Purdue are two recent steps the University has taken to implement its Foundations of Excellence initiative.

Office of Technology Commercialization moves campus office

The Purdue Office of Technology Commercialization has relocated its campus office from Haas Hall to the Burton D. Morgan Center for Entrepreneurship, Room 223. The office opened an extension in 2010 to increase accessibility for Purdue faculty and staff to engage with technology transfer professionals.

Learn about the Center for Healthy Living at upcoming sessions

Faculty and staff can learn more about the Center for Healthy Living at sessions being offered by Human Resources. The center is scheduled to open in late February in the Purdue West Shopping Center, 1400 W. State St.

Libraries Update newsletter available online

The spring 2013 issue of the Libraries Update newsletter is now available here. The newsletter highlights the Purdue University Research Repository (PURR) and Libraries' active role in helping teaching faculty prepare submissions for their courses to meet the information literacy outcome for core curriculum. The spring issue also looks at how Archives and Special Collections is working on preserving the historical records of the University.

In the midst of an unusually deadly flu season and armed with a vaccine that only offers partial protection, a Purdue researcher is working on a flu vaccine that overcomes the need to predict which strains will hit each year and eliminates the common causes of vaccine shortages.

Weaver to receive Spirit of the Land-Grant Mission Award

Nutrition scientist and professor Connie Weaver will receive Purdue's 2012 Spirit of the Land-Grant Mission Award for improving nutrition recommendations for children, adolescents and adults nationwide through her research in calcium absorption and bone health.

Mingo finalist for Senior CLASS Award

For the second consecutive season and the third time under head coach Sharon Versyp, a member of the Purdue women's basketball team is a finalist for the Senior CLASS Award. The Senior CLASS Award committee announced Wednesday (Feb. 6) that Drey Mingo is one of the final 10 women's basketball players for this year's honor.

Home game times announced for women's basketball

The game times for the final two home contests for No. 13/14 Purdue women's basketball were announced by the Big Ten Conference and BTN on Wednesday (Feb. 6). Both the Boilermakers' Feb. 28 game against Michigan State and the March 3 matchup versus Illinois have been picked up as wild-card games to be broadcast live on BTN.

Fans invited to meet Hazell before men's basketball game Saturday

Purdue fans attending the Purdue-Michigan State men's basketball game Saturday (Feb. 9) are invited to meet new football coach Darrell Hazell beforehand. Hazell will be in the Mackey Arena West Club beginning at 6 p.m. for approximately one hour.
