In 1904, Purdue seniors began a tradition of wearing -- and later elaborately decorating -- yellow corduroy pants, a practice that lasted for more than 60 years. According to information from Purdue Libraries Archives and Special Collections, in fall 1904 some Purdue seniors noticed a bolt of yellow corduroy fabric displayed in the window of a tailor in Lafayette.

Campus welcome reception for President Daniels set for next week
Purdue employees are invited to help welcome President Mitch Daniels at a welcome reception from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Jan. 22 in the Ballrooms of Purdue Memorial Union. Usual work attire is appropriate. All staff are invited to attend in paid status at the approval of their supervisor. The Office of Special Events desires RSVPs by today (Jan. 18) at 49-40900 or events@purdue.edu.
Purdue faculty members on all campuses are encouraged to review and comment about the final report that the Provost's Task Force on Promotion and Tenure recently issued.
The Office of Institutional Equity is seeking nominations for the 2013 Focus Awards.
The Administrative and Professional Staff Advisory Committee (APSAC) is now accepting applications for its individual professional development grants.
The second annual Social Science Mechanics seminar series, presented by the Department of Political Science, will begin Tuesday. In the seminars, scholars will describe the storyline of their research publishing experiences to illuminate the processes for those in a variety of disciplines.
Purdue and the Inter-Religious Network communities will salute Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with songs, readings, reflections and prayer at the "Spiritual Celebration of the Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King" at 4 p.m. Sunday (Jan. 20) at St. Thomas Aquinas Center, 535 W. ITaP is promoting a free monthly series of cyber security awareness videos designed to educate individuals about behavior changes that can make entire organizations, including Purdue, more secure and compliant with security best practices.

Sen. Donnelly visits Purdue
Purdue President Mitch Daniels (right) and U.S. Sen. Joe Donnelly are shown during Donnelly's stop on campus Thursday (Jan. 17). Donnelly, who serves on the Senate Committee on Agriculture, met with Daniels as well as members of the College of Agriculture during his visit. Donnelly stopped in West Lafayette as part of his "I Work for You" tour, which is focused on Hoosier businesses, universities and members of the agricultural community, to learn about the issues most important to them.
Welcoming President Daniels
Purdue students welcome President Mitch Daniels to campus with a flash mob in front of Hovde Hall on Thursday (Jan. 17). At the end of the flash mob, which was organized by Purdue Student Government, students brought out a welcome banner bearing student signatures.
