Purdue President Mitch Daniels and Provost Tim Sands talk while on their way to a meeting with faculty members on Monday (Jan. 14). Daniels arrived on campus that afternoon to begin his term as Purdue's 12th president. More on Daniels is available at the Office of the President website.
Campus welcome reception set for next week
Purdue employees are invited to help welcome President Mitch Daniels at a welcome reception from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Jan. 22 in the Ballrooms of Purdue Memorial Union. Attire is business casual. All staff are invited to attend in paid status at the approval of their supervisor. The Office of Special Events desires RSVPs by Friday (Jan. 18) at 49-40900 or events@purdue.edu.

The Health Care Strategy Committee is ready to pursue solutions to rising Purdue medical plan costs.
Course Signals, a Purdue-developed early warning system for students' academic progress, is now available to use as a tool in Blackboard Learn for spring semester 2013. Recent statistics show the intervention program improves student success in classes employing it, as well as retention and graduation rates.
The Center for Instructional Excellence is offering a special topic presentation on the best practices, scholarship of teaching and learning, and resources to address the growing and increased internationalization of Purdue.
To celebrate Martin Luther King Jr., Purdue Memorial Union Dining Services will distribute free slices of birthday cake throughout the afternoon today on the ground floor of PMU by Starbucks. This is part of a week of planned lectures, service, learning opportunities, discussions, film and music themed "The Fierce Urgency of Now: The Time is Always Right to Do What is Right." Purdue Extension has launched an updated website that features personal accounts of those who have been served by Extension and how the programs improved their lives and businesses and strengthened their families and communities.
Children ages 3-18 with physical, cognitive and emotional disabilities can participate in a five-week Purdue physical activity and aquatics program that begins in March.
