Purdue Today schedule for semester break

Purdue Today will reduce its publishing schedule during semester break. It will be published today (Dec. 17) and then resume daily publication on Jan. 7.

Tier 1 lab at State Street Office Facility announces holiday schedule

The Tier 1 lab at State Street Office Facility (SSOF) will be closed Friday (Dec. 21) through Jan. 1 because of the holidays. The lab will resume normal hours on Jan. 2 at 7 a.m.

APSAC elects interim 2012-13 vice chair

The Administrative and Professional Staff Advisory Committee (APSAC) elected Brenda Knebel interim vice chair during its meeting Wednesday (Dec. 12).

Reminder: Communicate with vendors regarding deliveries around holidays

Procurement Services reminds users that when ordering in SRM shortly before a holiday, they should communicate with vendors via the purchase order if a facility has reduced its hours and when the University will be closed.

Everyday Wellness: Folate and vitamin B-12 for women's health

All women of child-bearing age should get the recommended amounts of folate and vitamin B-12, whether they plan to get pregnant or not. These nutrients help prevent defects in the brain and spinal column that occur during the first 28 days of pregnancy, often before many women even know they are pregnant.

University Tax Department urges staff to update home addresses

In preparation for the distribution of 2012 W-2 forms to Purdue employees, the University Tax Department urges employees to review their home addresses in Employee Self-Service (ESS) by Dec. 31.

Purdue trims president's pay, breaks new ground for executive compensation

The Purdue Board of Trustees on Saturday (Dec. 15) approved an employment contract for incoming president Mitchell E. Daniels Jr. that lowers the base pay and includes performance bonuses based on critical goals such as increased graduation rates and affordability.

Purdue trustees approve insurance, software, energy contracts

The Board of Trustees on Saturday (Dec. 15) approved contracts to provide property insurance, lower coal costs and purchase software that streamlines University procurement.

Trustees approve academic appointments

The Board of Trustees on Saturday (Dec. 15) ratified appointments to two named chairs and three distinguished professorships.

Trustees approve 2013-14 residence hall rate plans

Purdue's Board of Trustees on Saturday (Dec. 15) approved a 1.9 percent average increase in room and board rates at the West Lafayette campus for the 2013-14 academic year. It marks the third straight year that average rates have risen 2 percent or less.

Purdue moves ahead to finalize hiring of Hazell as football coach

Purdue trustees on Saturday (Dec. 15) voted to move forward with the hiring of Darrell Hazell as the Boilermakers' football coach.

Indiana Gov. and Purdue president-elect Mitch Daniels on Saturday (Dec. 15) challenged the graduating class of Indiana University to continually step out of their societal comfort zones to avoid insulating themselves from the less fortunate.

Parking Facilities office to relocate over winter break

Purdue University's Parking Facilities office will relocate to its new location at 1404 W. State St. during the winter break. The current office, located on Northwestern Avenue, will close Dec. 28 and reopen in its new location at Purdue West on Jan. 2.

Visitor Information Center to relocate to Union

Purdue's Visitor Information Center and its staff will move from the Northwestern Avenue Parking Garage to Purdue Memorial Union, Room 110, on Thursday (Dec. 20).

More adults should consider following Santa's lead and enjoy milk more often, says a Purdue nutrition expert.

Tippets appointed director of Foundations of Excellence

Jared Tippets, director of Student Success at Purdue, has been named director of Foundations of Excellence (FoE). In his new role, Tippets will lead implementation of recommendations included in the University's FoE report, which aims to help Purdue design an academic environment and student experience that will enhance first-year students' learning, competence, confidence and overall success.

Modern public speakers and college lecturers are sometimes bedeviled by comments and chatter posted on Twitter while they are speaking. Now speakers can engage in the conversation even while they are standing at the podium with a new, free iPad app called Backdraft.

New agricultural electronic insect trap saves labor, monitors insect data, reduces insecticide use

A new agricultural electronic insect trapping device has the potential to automatically monitor insect pest populations and reduce the amount of insecticides emitted into the environment.

Registration for Purdue bowl travel options ends today

Registration closes at 5 p.m. today (Dec. 17) for Purdue's official tailgate/transfer packages for the Heart of Dallas Bowl on Jan. 1. Information about the packages as well as links for reserving a room at the team hotel or purchasing tickets are available at https://bowlpurdue.com/dallasbowl.

Donation options available for Heart of Dallas Bowl

In conjunction with the Heart of Dallas Bowl, Purdue Athletics has set up a program where fans can purchase tickets to be donated to local community programs. In addition, Boilermaker Nation can help defray the cost of sending the Purdue "All-American" Marching Band and/or the Reamer Club to the game.

Turner named Academic All-American of the Year

Outside hitter Ariel Turner garnered the ultimate honor for a volleyball student-athlete as she was named the Capitol One Academic All-American of the Year on Thursday (Dec. 13). In addition, Turner added second-team AVCA All-America honors to her resume on Wednesday (Dec. 12).

Short named a second-team AP All-American

Fifth-year defensive tackle Kawann Short was named a second-team All-American by the Associated Press on Tuesday (Dec. 11). He becomes Purdue's first All-America selection since Ryan Kerrigan was named a unanimous first-team member in 2010.
