Talia Bugel

Purdue Profiles: Talia Bugel

Talia Bugel has firsthand knowledge of what it's like to grow up speaking one language at home while using another at school. For Bugel, a native of the South American country of Uruguay, those languages were Spanish and French, respectively. Now, as an associate professor of Spanish at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne, Bugel shares the benefits of multilingualism and multiculturalism with her university students.

Video of today's President's Forum to be available online

Video of today's President's Forum will be posted on the Office of the President website by the end of the day. The forum features opening remarks from acting President Tim Sands and a panel discussion on innovation and commercialization. The forum is scheduled for 8-9:30 a.m. today (Nov. 6) in Purdue Memorial Union, South Ballroom.

Vote center open today at PMU

Vote centers in Tippecanoe County are open 6 a.m.-6 p.m. today (Nov. 6) for the general election in West Lafayette, Lafayette and several towns. One of the centers is in Purdue Memorial Union, Room 118. For more about the county's vote centers, go to www.tippecanoe.in.gov/election_board.

Online calculator shows how employee's medical premium affected by 2013 choice

Faculty and staff can use an online tool to see how much their medical premium will increase or decrease for 2013, based on the plan they have in 2012 and the option they choose for 2013.

Today's benefit enrollment events

Today (Nov. 6) features three events:

1) Walk-in lab, 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Physics Building, Room 026.
2) Enrollment Overview presentations, 9-10 a.m. and 1-2 p.m., Stewart Center,
Room 314.
3) Choice Fund with HSA presentations, 10:30-11:30 a.m. and 2:30-3:30 p.m., Stewart Center, Room 314.

Campus flu shot events completed; walk-in flu shots at PUSH

The scheduled seasonal flu shot events provided by Maxim Health Systems on the West Lafayette campus have concluded. Purdue University Student Health Center (PUSH) will provide seasonal flu shots based on vaccine availability on a walk-in basis.

Police: Walking across railroad tracks at random spots illegal

Purdue police are reminding members of the campus community who park in recently constructed lots south of campus around South Russell Street and Ahlers Drive to walk across railroad tracks only at designated crossings.

University Residences offering short-term housing for University guests

The Division of Housing and Food Services is now offering temporary short-term housing to meet the needs of the academic campus and other University departments.

Student veteran groups win awards, set national examples

Student veterans from the University of Evansville, Indiana University Southeast and Purdue University won top honors and $2,000 each in a Student Veterans Organization Hall of Fame Competition, the Military Family Research Institute at Purdue announced Friday (Nov. 2).

37th Great American Smokeout to build student awareness

To build upon past efforts to create a healthy and smoke-free campus, Purdue students and campus organizations will collaborate to recognize the 37th annual Great American Smokeout on Nov. 15.
