In the Spotlight: Green Week
TODAY'S THEME: ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORTATION
Recent enhancements to the variety and availability of sustainable transportation options are visible throughout campus and will be highlighted today (Oct. 24) at the Alternative Transportation Expo, which marks Green Week's focus on alternative transportation.
Today's events
The Alternative Transportation Expo will be 11 a.m.- 3 p.m. today on Memorial Mall and Centennial Mall. The expo will include a vehicle show with Smart cars, a hybrid Tesla sports car, an electric Fisker Karma sports car, a hybrid bus from CityBus, hybrid delivery trucks and an airplane that runs on biofuel.

Faculty and staff news
Faculty and staff will gain added convenience when EBenefits, Purdue's online benefits system, becomes the official record of beneficiaries for the University's term life and accidental death and dismemberment insurance. Currently, this information is kept in the records of Minnesota Life.
Nominations for the Eudoxia Girard Martin Memorial Staff Recognition Award are being accepted through Nov. 9. The award is intended for fifth-level secretaries or administrative assistants with five years of continuous service on the West Lafayette campus. It is awarded to staff who accomplish their duties with a special caring and helpfulness to students, faculty and staff. Details are available in this memo.
General news
Indiana Gov. and Purdue president-elect Mitch Daniels is scheduled to appear on Comedy Central's 'The Colbert Report' on Thursday (Oct. 25). The appearance is among several Daniels will make this fall.
The presidential election is not the only one in which Purdue fans can vote this fall. And, just as in the general election, voter turnout is crucial today (Oct. 24) as a LEGO model of Purdue Pete, the Boilermakers' sports mascot, seeks support. To go to the voting site, click here.
When Purdue civil engineering professor emeritus Sidney Diamond published his work on "Methods of Soil Stablilization for Erosion Control" in 1975, he expected it to primarily be read in Indiana. Today, however, readers of Diamond's report are as likely to be in India, Brazil and China as in Monticello or Frankfort, Ind., thanks to Purdue e-Pubs.
Purdue will host 28 veterans beginning Thursday (Oct. 25) for the Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities.
