Foundations of Excellence

Faculty and staff news
Video of today's President's Forum will be posted on the Office of the President website by the end of the day. The forum features opening remarks from acting President Tim Sands and a four-person, faculty-led panel discussion about Purdue online education models and alternatives. Mary Sadowski, dean of Purdue Extended Campus, moderates the discussion. The forum is being held from 8 to 9 a.m. today (Oct. 2) in Stewart Center, Fowler Hall.
The Office of Institutional Equity is offering several learning opportunities in recognition of National Disability Employment Awareness Month. This year's theme is "A Strong Workforce is an Inclusive Workforce: What Can YOU Do?"
Purdue employees may learn about what causes diabetic retinopathy, how it's diagnosed, and the treatment options available at a WorkLife Programs class on Monday (Oct. 8).
Faculty and students are invited to attend the College of Liberal Arts Interdisciplinary Programs and Community Engagement Fair being held 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Wednesday (Oct. 3) in Purdue Memorial Union, Room 118.
Research news
A new molecule designed to treat Alzheimer's disease has significant promise and is potentially the safest to date, according to researchers.
Purdue professor Arun Ghosh designed the molecule, which is a highly potent beta-secretase inhibitor with unique features that ensure it goes only to its target and does not affect healthy physiological processes, he said.
Purdue has been chosen as a lead institution for a new Federal Aviation Administration Air Transportation Center of Excellence for general aviation.
General news
A daylong series of events Friday (Oct. 5) will highlight the 50th anniversary celebration of Purdue's Department of Computer Science.
Gerald Skidmore, a Purdue engineering alumnus, and his wife, Sarah, have given a $750,000 gift to the School of Chemical Engineering to be used for a named professorship.
Several programs for families with elementary through high school students interested in learning more about the veterinary medical profession are being offered by Purdue's College of Veterinary Medicine.

The Purdue football team is rolling into Big Ten Conference play with a 3-1 record for the first time since 2007.
