Dennis Ichiyama

For Dennis Ichiyama, professor of visual communications design, printing with wood type is not an outdated technology; it is an art form. In fall 1999, as designer-in-residence at the Hamilton Wood Type and Printing Museum in Two Rivers, Wis., Ichiyama separated himself from digitalized graphic design and mixed, inked, set and pressed to create one-of-a-kind prints. During his time at the museum, Ichiyama was featured in the Kartemquin documentary "Typeface," which gave him the chance to share his passion for hundred-year-old wood type and introduce the craft and art to a new generation of designers. President's Forum today to focus on budget, legislative process

Faculty and staff are invited to attend a President's Forum from 9 to 10 a.m. today (Feb. 22) in the South Ballroom, Purdue Memorial Union. President France A. Córdova will open the forum with remarks, and Al Diaz, executive vice president for business services and finance, treasurer, will discuss the current state of the budget and the legislative process. Purdue Saves Week: Today's tip on saving and investing

Many brokerage firms allow you to set up electronic transfers from your checking or savings account each week, month or quarter. This is a very effective way to begin saving because you don't actually see or miss the cash. For more information, register for one of the Purdue Saves Week presentations or visit the information tables staffed by Worklife Programs and the Division of Financial Aid from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the west lobby of Stewart Center. Representatives from Fidelity also will be on hand to answer questions and schedule individual financial counseling appointments for those interested.

 

National Engineers Week at Purdue, Feb. 21-25

New lecture series will cater to students questioning their academic paths

The College of Engineering is using National Engineers Week to recognize gifts to the college from numerous benefactors. Among the donations are two endowments valued at $750,000 from John Held (BSME ’60) and his wife and fellow Purdue graduate, Yvonne Held. The endowments will support the John and Yvonne Held Mechanical Engineering Scholarship and the Held Alumni Lecture Series. Read more...
