Purdue to celebrate plan for new home for hospitality and tourism management

Purdue will hold a celebration at 11 a.m. today (Oct. 30) for a new $12 million building to house the top-ranked Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management.

The J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott Foundation made the $4 million lead gift to construct Marriott Hall, a state-of-the-art facility for teaching, research and additional dining options for the campus and community. More

Hanley Hall celebration focuses on families, leadership

A new $11.5 million facility aimed at fostering research on families, aging and leadership moved one step closer to reality Monday (Oct. 29) with a ceremony to celebrate the success of fundraising efforts.

Bill and Sally Hanley Hall will house the Human Development Institute, which will include programs and centers from the College of Consumer and Family Sciences and the Purdue Center for Aging and the Life Course. The institute, which will provide space for centers focused on key areas of family and the life course, is made possible in part by a $3 million gift from the Hanleys, who are Purdue alumni, and $1.5 million from the Lilly Endowment. Alumni Ben and Maxine Miller also provided funding toward the institute. More

Amanda Fox of Indianapolis and Tom Seto of Evansville, Ind., on Friday (Oct. 26) were crowned Purdue's Homecoming queen and king during the pep rally at Slayter Hill. Fox is senior in the College of Education and Seto is a junior in the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. More

Chief scientific officer of Howard Hughes Medical Institute to return to Purdue as visiting distinguished lecturer

Jack E. Dixon, the vice president and chief scientific officer of Howard Hughes Medical Institute, will speak at Purdue on Thursday and Friday (Nov.1 and 2) as the visiting lecturer for the annual Varro E. Tyler Distinguished Lectureship.

Dixon, who was Purdue's Harvey W. Wiley Distinguished Professor of Biochemistry from 1986-1991, will present two lectures during his visit. Both events are free and open to the public. More
