LPRC: Characterization of Tissue Environments DUIRI - Discovery Undergraduate Interdisciplinary Research Internship Summer 2024 Accepted Biomedical Engineering Neurological diseases affect 15% of the global population, and numbers are expected to climb as the global population ages. Delivery of compounds into these tissues is complicated by barriers to transport, including the blood-brain barrier. The project will focus on the use of medical imaging, microscopy, and tissue compositional analysis tools to improve our understanding of the local anatomy and physiology of the central nervous system to guide the development of novel treatment strategies. Luis Solorio Brenna Renee Vaughn Participate in tissue collection and tissue processing. Collect images using medical imaging systems (MRI, CT, Ultrasound) and confocal images of stained tissues. Perform immunohistochemical staining of tissues. Work with small animal models to include mice and rats. 3.0 GPA; working understanding of transport phenomena, biomechanics, and microscopy; ability to work in a team environment; and willingness to work with small animal models. 0 40 (estimated)
