Examining Equity & Access in the Indianapolis School Choice Portfolio Education Academic Year 2025 Accepted Education; Educational Policy Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) has recently implemented a portfolio model of schools that include traditional district run schools, charter schools, innovation network schools, and magenet schools overseen by a variety of organizations including the Mayor's Office of Educational Innovation. Additionally, IPS has implemented their rebuilding stronger plan, dividing the district into four geographic zones where families can choose any school within their designated zone. While IPS claims that each zone is designed to offer equitable options for students, concerns persist regarding long-standing geographic and racial disparities in access to the highest-quality schools. This project will analyze publicly available data about each school type within each zone to determine whether access to high quality schools is equitable. Bryan J. Duarte Scholar(s) will collect publicly available data such as school names, zone assignments, enrollment, demographics, and indicators of school quality. Data collection will be straightforward, but general proficiency with Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets will aid in compiling the data into sharable format. 0 6 (estimated)
