cryogenic preservation of honeybee eggs Mechanical Engineering Undergraduate Research Program Fall 2025 Closed biomedical, heat mass transfer, agriculture Honeybee is an important pollinator contributing to the sustainable agriculture industry, however, suffering from significant colony loss due to pesticides, climiate change and habitat loss. The ability to cryogenically (i.e, in liquid nitrogen) preserve the genetic materials of honeybee will safeguard this important species. This project aims at developing methods to cryopreserve honeybee eggs. Li Zhan This project provides unique opportunities to maintain a bee colony in collaboration with Purdue Bee Lab. Responsibilities include 1) field work of maintaining a bee colony (as well as access to fresh honey), 2) collecting honeybee eggs,.3) lab work of cryopreserving the honeybee eggs in liquid nitrogen. https://www.zhanlab.org/home
