Social media abuse in nursing homes Health & Human Sciences Academic Year 2025 Accepted elder justice, elder care Social media abuse encompasses a range of negative interactions and behaviors that can cause harm to individuals, such as cyberbullying, online harassment, stalking, and the exploitation of vulnerable people. When social media abuse takes place in nursing homes, photos or videos of elder abuse are posted on social media platforms. Our research team located relevant reports from State Survey Agency, who investigate quality of care issues in nursing homes, to investigate social media abuse in nursing homes. Through qualitative data analysis, the research team will generate older residents' risk profile (e.g., how many have dementia) and impact of social media abuse (e.g., changes in behavior or emotional distress), what position did perpetrators hold in nursing homes and why they did it, as well as what happened. Findings will lead to policy recommendations for nursing homes and policy makers at the state and federal levels. Pi Ju Liu Pi Ju Liu expect contribution to research group through qualitative data coding- research assistants will be trained to conduct qualitative data analysis, then read State Survey Agency reports on social media abuse in nursing homes to conduct qualitative coding prior experiences in elder care or research in qualitative data analysis preferred 0 5 (estimated)
