Cybersecurity Risks of Freight Rail as Critical Infrastructure DUIRI - Discovery Undergraduate Interdisciplinary Research Internship Fall 2025 Accepted Global Security CERIAS is building a physical model for simulating freight rail critical infrastructure. The project centers around a miniature train environment that is connected to a computer network to simulate the cybersecurity environment of both the back office servers and the wayside components. This model will be opened up to researchers who want to develop and test cybersecurity attacks for a freigh rail environment. Courtney Allen Falk Student workers will be working with both embedded computing systems and servers. The work is a combination of hands-on electrical wiring and software development and installation. A qualified student should have experience working with consumer-grade embedded systems (i.e. Arduino and Raspberry Pi). The student should also be comfortable installing, configuring, and maintaining Linux operating system environments. An understanding of the basics of cybersecurity is a plus. 0 10 (estimated)
