Women in Engineering
The Women in Engineering (WiE) Program invites you to apply to participate in a diverse community of first-year engineering students living on campus. The WiE Learning Community (LC) makes it easy for you to find other engineering students in your classes to study and hang out with. Most resident assistants should be upper class engineering students who are full of advice and support. This low-key community allows you to get easily involved in other WiE Program activities. We strongly encourage WiE LC participants to also join the WiE Mentees & Mentors Program (what we call M&M) and/or to register for the ENGR 19400: Women in Engineering Seminar Course. You will get an e-vite over the summer to sign up for the WiE M&M program, so please watch your purdue.edu email. You can register for ENGR 19400 when you register for your other Fall semester courses. Students who participate in the WiE LC and at least one of these other WiE programs tend to graduate from Purdue Engineering at higher rates that those who choose not to participate. So set yourself up for success - join M&M and/or ENGR 19400. The WiE LC is all about the success of women in the various fields of engineering - all students regardless of gender are welcome and encouraged to apply for ENGR 19400 and/or M&M.
College of Engineering students are able to apply for participation in this learning community and other College of Engineering learning communities; please see individual learning community profiles in the College of Engineering for eligibility requirements. You may indicate on your application if you would like to be considered for more than one community and you will also share your order of preference for these learning communities at that time.
Eligibility
- First-time beginning students admitted to the First-Year Engineering Program or to Pre-ABE or ABE in the College of Agriculture
- This learning community is not available to Honors College participants
Residential Component
- Required. The location of learning community housing will be determined based on the incoming size and needs of the learning community.
- A signed housing contract is required to apply to this learning community. Once a housing contract is completed, you will indicate your learning community housing preference within the learning community application. Applications received by the priority deadline will be considered first.
- If you want to be placed with a preferred roommate and be admitted to a learning community with a required residential component, both you and your roommate must apply (and be accepted) to the same learning community. Students admitted to learning communities with a required residential component cannot be paired with students admitted to learning communities with an optional residential component.

No Courses required
Every fee eligible student involved with a learning community (LC) at Purdue will be assessed the $200 LC fee to their university account. These funds support activities and travel, signature LC events, housing assignments and/or course registration and instructor stipends.
Events and Activities Included:
- Make important social and academic contacts with other first-year engineering students to help you succeed during your first year
- Network with upper-level engineering students interested in the success of women in the College of Engineering
- If you are selected for the WiE LC and another learning community, you may be able to participate in both while living with the WiE LC.
