First Conversations on Teaching session to be Thursday

February 22, 2010

Purdue's Teaching Academy will hold its first Conversations on Teaching session, “Using Web 2.0 Applications to Engage Students in International Collaboration Problem-Solving Experiences," from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. Thursday (Feb. 25) in Room B-151, Lawson Computer Science Building.

Led by TimothyNewby, professor of curriculum and instruction, the session will focus on how a large lecture class of undergraduate students was divided into small teams to work collaboratively with students from various international universities to design and develop a wiki repository about educational uses of Web 2.0 applications.

The growing repository now consists of more than 120 Web 2.0 applications and has involved more than 1,000 Purdue undergraduates and 300 students from universities outside the United States. The presentation will include lessons learned as well as the product of the team experience.

The second session, presented by Heidi Diefes-Dux, associate professor of engineering education, and Matthew Verleger, postdoctoral research assistant in engineering education, will be "Developing and Assessing Classroom Activities for a Messy World" from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. March 25 in Room B-151, Lawson Computer Science Building.
