Hints and Discussion Thread

- σave and R represent the location of the center and the radius of Mohr’s circle in the σ-τ plane. Use the equations provided in the lecture book for these two parameters.
- Be as neat as possible in drawing your Mohr’s circle to make sure that your circle is round.
- The x-axis on Mohr’s circle corresponds to (σ,τ) = (σx,τxy). Recall that the positive τ-axis points DOWNWARD.
- What are the two extreme values for normal stress in your Mohr’s circle? These are called the principal stresses.
- What are the two extreme values for shear stress in your Mohr’s circle?
- Use the stress transformation equations derived in the lecture book.
