It is recommended that you use the 2nd-order definite integral approach. The reasoning for this is that the 2nd-order approach is generally less intensive on algebra than the 4th-order integration method, and the definite integral approach makes the enforcement of boundary conditions more obvious (i.e., the approach tells you which boundary conditions that are needed for solving).
