Macrosystems Ecology
Our macrosystems ecology research examines ecological patterns and processes at broad spatial scales — from regions to continents. We work at the intersection of large empirical datasets, modeling, and field ecology to understand how forests respond to 1) biological invasions, 2) climate change, and 3) shifts in below-ground coupling. The lab has contributed to two special issues on macrosystems ecology in Landscape Ecology and Frontiers in Ecology and the Environment.
Research Projects
Invasion Biology
Non-native species continue to establish and spread in forest ecosystems across the United States, altering species composition, disrupting nutrient cycles, and causing measurable losses in forest biomass and carbon storage.
Climate Change on Forests
Climate change is reorganizing the geographic ranges of tree species across North America in ways that have profound consequences for forest composition, ecosystem function, and resource management.
Above-Below Ground Coupling
The diversity and composition of aboveground tree communities are not independent of what lives belowground.
