The University’s yearlong sesquicentennial celebration—“150 Years of Giant Leaps”—continues reaching new heights of acclaim and achievement as we near the 50th anniversary of the Apollo XI moon landing and alumnus Neil Armstrong’s inspirational historic statement on the lunar surface. More than a birthday celebration, this is a year of reflection, appreciation, and strategic decision-making about Purdue’s future. We are also approaching the grand finale of Ever True: The Campaign for Purdue University, the largest fundraising effort in Purdue history. With Purdue Day of Giving coming up—Wednesday, April 24—your participation in this 24-hour, social-media-driven event is one way to honor Purdue’s history and contribute to its future. It’s also a chance to keep the campaign’s momentum going to reach a $500 million private giving goal in the final year of our Ever True campaign. Of course, the ultimate goal is continuing Purdue’s leadership in providing higher education at the highest proven value. As President Mitch Daniels said in his annual Open Letter to the People of Purdue, record applications, research grants, and donations are good indicators that Purdue is being recognized and rewarded for providing value—especially in keeping Purdue affordable. In fact, earlier in February, he announced that Purdue plans to hold tuition at 2012 levels for an eighth consecutive year, through the 2020–21 academic year! As you take your own “Giant Leaps” this year, watch for upcoming Boilermaker birthday events, celebrations, and conversations through Purdue’s various social media channels. Thank you for the role you play in Purdue’s history and future! Visit our campaign website for more of the latest news, additional stories of impact, details on how to give, and ways to stay connected. Boiler Up! Hail Purdue! P.S. If you’re coming to campus to participate in events and celebrations, please note that Purdue Memorial Union Club renovations will begin this summer. Construction is set to begin June 3 and is expected to last approximately one year. |
