On April 25, our Purdue family—from every state and 58 countries—made their mark on our University during Purdue Day of Giving. This marked the fourth consecutive year that Purdue has raised the most dollars for higher education in a 24-hour timespan. All told, Purdue Day of Giving has raised $105M since it launched in 2014. Thank you to everyone who has participated! Of course, this year’s day of giving is only the most recent of many successes that our generous alumni, faculty, staff, retirees, students, parents, and friends around the world have helped make possible. Last month, President Daniels announced a 7th consecutive year of frozen tuition for students on our West Lafayette campus. Holding tuition flat since 2013 has saved students and their families an estimated $465M, all while the University continues investing heavily in research and academic excellence. In March, Purdue Global—Indiana’s newest public institution of higher education—officially acquired Kaplan University. Purdue Global enhances Purdue’s land-grant mission by expanding access to higher education for the millions of working adults who started and did not complete a college degree and for those unable to attend a traditional college campus. Looking forward, Purdue’s 150th anniversary theme has been announced as “Giant Leaps,” inspired by alumnus Neil Armstrong’s historic statement from the moon. The centerpiece of the celebration, which kicks off during this fall’s Homecoming, will be a yearlong Ideas Festival. In conjunction with that milestone, the Office of the Provost is honoring ten faculty members with the designation of “150th Anniversary Professor.” The professorships are being funded by the Provost’s office until donors are found to endow them. Congratulations to these high-impact, master educators. Thanks to your continued support, we can take pride in helping to propel the Purdue Moves initiatives—affordability and accessibility, STEM leadership, world-changing research, and transformative education—forward.
