2020 Event Canceled

We are sorry to announce that Grandparents University, scheduled for June 25–26, has been canceled.

Guided by Tippecanoe County public health and safety officials, Purdue University has canceled all public events scheduled through June 30, 2020, due to ongoing concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic.

We are disappointed we aren't able to share in the joy of the memories made during GPU; however, the health and safety of the Purdue community is our top priority.

Please contact Purdue Conferences at 765-496-6205 or conferences@purdue.edu with questions.

We appreciate your understanding, and we look forward to welcoming you to GPU next year.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible to participate?

Grandparents University® (GPU) at Purdue is open to children between the ages of 7 and 14 who are accompanied by a grandparent or adult relative. This program is not designed for parents to accompany their children.

What are the age requirements?

All children must be in the eligible age range (7–14) during the time that GPU takes place.

Can one adult bring two children?

Yes. One adult can bring two children provided that all three attend all the same classes/activities and stay together as a group. Each child must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

What is the cost to attend?

Purdue Alumni Association member pricing is $190 per adult and $190 per child. The nonmember rate is $240 per adult and $190 per child. (Nonmember rate includes a yearlong PLUS level membership in the Purdue Alumni Association.)

How do I register and what is included with the registration fee?

All registrations must be made through the online registration link. Registration fees include four meals on campus, classroom materials, campus activities, a welcome bag, and a T-shirt.

Where will we stay and eat while on campus?

Participants have the option to reside on campus at Third Street Suites, one of the newest residence halls on campus, or at a local hotel. Meals will be served at an on-campus dining facility.

What is the physical activity level of the program?

GPU events take place in a variety of spaces across campus. Please note that although there is some transportation via bus, walking is the primary mode of transportation. Walking distances may be up to a mile per day. Due to the size of the program and number of staff available, we are unable to provide personal mobility assistance.

What happens if I do not get my major?

Unfortunately, issues beyond our control arise occasionally and require a major to be cancelled. In this instance, the GPU team makes every effort to find an adequate replacement instructor or major. All majors are subject to change without notice. If there is a cancellation, the GPU administrator will place you in a new major.
