Active-learning classrooms to increase; success depends on matching instructors to spaces

A new report says 29 new active-learning classrooms will reaffirm Purdue's commitment to student-centered teaching. The next challenge is aligning instruction to the rooms' features. A public forum on the topic will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 13) in Lawson Computer Science Building, Room B151.

Understanding how plants sense and cope with harsh conditions such as drought, too much salt in the soil or extreme temperatures could help researchers develop tougher crops — an essential step to improving agricultural productivity, environmental sustainability and global food security. But while scientists have made some headway in decoding plants' stress signaling pathways and defense mechanisms, many key questions remain unanswered, says a review by Jian-Kang Zhu, distinguished professor of plant biology.
