Purdue receives $2.3 million federal grant to study active learning

Purdue has received a four-year, $2.3 million federal Department of Education grant to study why active-learning strategies help student retention, success and completion rates. The grant, which was announced Tuesday (Sept. 30) and begins today, is through the DOE's First in the World Program, which seeks to improve postsecondary educational persistence and completion. Purdue President Mitch Daniels was one of three university presidents asked to take part in the announcement event Tuesday with Arne Duncan, U.S. secretary of education; Ted Mitchell, undersecretary in the U.S. Department of Education; and Cecilia Munoz, director of the White House Domestic Policy Council.
